Interventional Cardiology

Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology

Dr. Michael Barry is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology. He has successfully practiced independently since 1996.

Dr. Barry completed his undergraduate studies at Drake University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minored in Physics and Spanish. He then enrolled in a genetics Ph.D. program at the University of Iowa, before attending the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa (currently Des Moines University).

Dr. Barry completed his internship, internal medicine residency, and cardiology fellowship at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Barry has interest and expertise in multiple areas of cardiology, including the performance of coronary angiography and select percutaneous coronary intervention, the interpretation of vascular and cardiac ultrasound studies, and gated SPECT and coronary CT angiography. However, Dr. Barry derives the greatest professional satisfaction from the exercise of clinical cardiology: accurately diagnosing the nature and severity of disease, primarily based on the history and physical examination with limited cardiovascular diagnostic testing.

Dr. Barry feels clinical cardiology (i.e., diagnosis based on the history and physical examination) is a lost art in modern cardiology. He prides himself in the accuracy of his diagnostic and treatment plans and the successful minimization of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and the maximization of quality of life in his patients, in a cost-effective fashion. As such, Dr. Barry employs an integrated and holistic approach in the management of his patients.

Dr. Barry enjoys spending time with his family, running, surfing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in his free time.
