Hassan Makki, DO is an interventional cardiologist with more than fifteen years of experience. Dr. Makki specializes in treating cardiac and vascular conditions including the areas of heart failure, various heart diseases, atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, stroke, heart attack, and blood clots.
Dr. Makki graduated from medical school at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He moved to Phoenix after completing his Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiology Fellowship in Michigan through the Michigan State state-wide campus program at Garden City Hospital. After spending five years treating hypertension, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and rhythm disorders through his general cardiology practice, Dr. Makki returned to the catheterization laboratory for further training. He completed an additional Interventional Fellowship at St. John’s Hospital in Macomb, Michigan where he trained in both coronary and peripheral interventions utilizing the newest techniques with the most state-of-the-art equipment.
Dr. Makki takes a personal approach to patient care, getting to know the individual so that he can treat their heart and their wellness as a whole. His use of minimally-invasive, state-of-the-art techniques allows him to diagnose and treat patients with fewer risks for complications.
“I perform more than 90% of my procedures using the radial approach where we go through the wrist instead of the groin area.” This procedure allows patients to go home sooner, often in less than two hours.
Dr. Makki believes in treating more than a patient’s symptoms in a compassionate and thoughtful manner to achieve the best outcome. He is ranked among the top 20% of doctors in the United States based on his credentials, experience, and network. He is one of this country’s most highly rated doctors.
As a part of the Limb Salvage Program at CiC, Dr. Makki’s focus is on the restoration of blood flow to the arteries of the legs to prevent lower limb amputations through advanced, minimally-invasive techniques. He believes that helping a patient avoid an amputation is as rewarding and socially relevant as any of his endeavors in treating heart disease.
As a strong proponent of preventive medicine, Dr. Makki advocates and lives a very healthy lifestyle. He believes combining daily exercise with a diet of fresh, unaltered foods with judicious guideline-directed medication when needed is essential for living a healthy lifestyle.
